What makes you, You? What makes me, ME? Unit Summary
Students will understand why they look the way they do and how traits are passed from parents
to offspring. The unit will allow the students to take a look at the history of genetics and learn more about Gregor Mendel,
the Father of genetics. Students will demonstrate how to use and interpret a Punnett square. Various forms of
technology will be used to spark interest in the unit.

Technology Integration
Volki
  • The teacher will use the teacher generated voki to introduce the lesson.
  • The students will interact by answering questions presented during the volki presentation.
Heredity PowerPoint
  • The teacher will use a PowerPoint presentation on heredity to discuss how traits are passed from parents to offspring.
  • The student will interact by asking questions and completing the activity presented in the PowerPoint, called Composite Faces.
Box Museum
  • Students will work in pairs to research the life of Gregor Mendel.
  • The students will use interactive website, Box Museum to create and present a presentation about the life of Gregor Mendel.
Web Poster Wizard
  • After a lesson on the Punnett square, students will visit the website Web Poster Wizard. The students will use the iPod tool to practice using the Punnett square.
  • Students will create a Punnett square and share it with the class as a learning tool.
Kerpoof
  • Students will use the Kerpoof website to create a digital movie about heredity.
  • The teacher will provide a rubric for the presentation.
